결코 실패가 없는 친구

모든 은혜의 생명, 모든 약속의 생명, 모든 예식의 생명 그리고 모든 축복의 생명이 되시는 분은

바로 예수님이시다. 

예수께서는 실체이시며 영광과 향기가 되시고 생명 자체가 되신다. 

“나를 따르는 자는 어두움에 다니지 아니하고 생명의 빛을 얻으리라”(요 8: 12). 

구속받은 자들이 걷도록 닦인 왕도(王道)는 절망적인 흑암 속에 싸여 있지 않다. 

예수께서

“내가 너희로 고아와 같이 버려두지 아니하고 너희에게로 오리라”(요 14: 18)라는 말씀을 하시지 않았다면

우리의 순례는 실로 외롭고 쓰라릴 것이다. 

그러므로 우리는 모든 기록된 약속의 말씀들을 한데 모아야 한다. 

우리는 낮에는 그 말씀들을 반복하고 밤에는 그 말씀들을 명상해야 하며 즐거워해야 한다.

 A Never-Failing Friend

This is Jesus,

the life of every grace, the life of every promise,

the life of every ordinance, the life of every blessing.

Jesus is the substance, the glory and fragrance, the very life itself. 

“He that followeth Me shall not walk in darkness,

but shall have the light of life” (John 8:12). 

Then the royal path cast up for the ransomed to walk in is not discouraging darkness. 

Our pilgrimage would indeed be lonely and painful were it not for Jesus.

“I will not,” He says, “leave you comfortless” (John 14:18). 

Then let us gather every registered promise.

Let us repeat them by day

and meditate upon them in the night season,

and be happy.
