승리를 얻을 수 있음

의로운 원칙들을 계발함으로써 인간은 악으로 기우는 경향을 이길 수 있다. 

인간이 하나님의 율법에 순종한다면, 오감(五感)들은 더 이상 비뚤어지고 왜곡되지 않는다. 

또한 신체의 기능들은

더 이상 하나님에게서 떠나가게 만드는 그런 성격의 대상들에서 행사됨으로써 약용되고 낭비되지 않는다. 

하늘이 부여해 준 은혜 안에서 그리고 그것을 통해서 말과 생각과 정력들이 순화될 것이다.

새로운 품성이 형성되고 죄의 저하가 극복될 것이다.

흔들리는 마음은 유혹의 시작임

유혹에 굴복하는 것은 마음이 흔들리고, 

하나님에 대한 그대의 신뢰가 초지일관하지 못하도록 허락하는 데서 시작된다. 

악한 자는 하나님을 잘못 나타내고 마음을 금지된 것들로 이끌 기회를 엿보며 항상 주시하고 있다. 

할 수만 있다면, 그는 마음을 세상의 사물들에 단단히 붙잡아 맬 것이다. 

그는 감정을 흥분시키고, 정욕을 불러일으키고, 유익이 되지 않는 것들에 그대의 애정을 단단히 붙들어 매려고 노력할 것이다.

그러나 그대가 할 일은

침착하게 이성과 양심에 복종하면서 모든 감정과 정욕을 통제 하에 붙들어 두는 것이다. 

그렇게 한다면 사단은 마음을 통제할 능력을 잃어버린다.

The Victory May Be Gained

Through the cultivation of righteous principles, man may gain the victory over the bias to evil. 

If he is obedient to the law of God, the senses are no longer warped and twisted; the faculties are no longer perverted and wasted by being exercised on objects that are of a character to lead away from God. 

In and through the grace bestowed by Heaven, the words, the thoughts, and the energies may be purified; a new character may be formed, and the debasement of sin overcome.

The beginning of yielding to temptation is in the sin of permitting the mind to waver, to be inconsistent in your trust in God. The wicked one is ever watching for a chance to misrepresent God and to attract the mind to that which is forbidden.      

If he can, he will fasten the mind upon the things of the world. He will endeavor to excite the emotions, to arouse the passions, to fasten the affections on that which is not for your good.

But it is for you to hold every emotion and passion under control, in calm subjection to reason and conscience. Then Satan loses his power to control the mind.
