우리 능력의 최고의 활용

 

 “영생은 곧 유일하신 참 하나님과 그의 보내신 자 예수 그리스도를 아는 것이니라." (요 17:3).

하나님을 이해하고 기뻐하는 것은 인간의 기능 중 최고의 활용이다.

이것은 그리스도의 은혜로 말미암아 우리의 애정들이 거룩해지고 고상하게 될 때에 달성되는 것이다.

그리스도 안에 그의 아버지의 영광의 빛 그의 개성의 본체의 형상이 있었다.

우리 구주께서는 말씀하시기를 “나를 본 자는 아버지를 보았느니라" (요 14:9)하셨다.

그리스도 안에 영혼의 생명이 있다.

그에게로 향하는 우리의 마음속에서 그의 영광을 찾는 우리의 열성 가운데서,

그의 탁월하심에 우리의 모든 애정을 복종시키는 우리의 열성 가운데서 우리는 생명을 찾는다.

우리는 그와 더불어 교통함으로써 생명의 떡을 먹는다.

 

 우리가 그리스도를 잊어버리게 하는 그렇게 중요치 않은 주제를 받아들여 우리의 관심을 삼키게 될 때,

또는 다른 동료를 받아들이도록 하고 그분으로부터 돌이켜 멀리 떨어지게 될 때

우리는 하나님과 하늘로부터 떠나가는 길로 인도하는 곳에 우리의 발을 두게 되는 것이다.

그리스도는 우리들의 애정에 중심 주제가 되어야 하며

그렇게 되면 우리는 그분 안에 살게 되고 그분의 영을 모실 수 있다...

 

하나님을 우리의 생각 가운데 항상 모시어야 할 것이다.

우리들이 길을 걸을 때, 우리의 손이 일손을 잡았을 동안에라도

우리는 그와 더불어 교통하기를 그치지 말아야 하는 것이다.

생애의 모든 추구하는 목적가운데서 우리는 하나님께 무엇을 행하기를 요구하시는지 반드시 물어 볼 것이다. 나를 속량하기 위하여 그의 생명을 바친 그를 어떻게 기쁘시게 할 수 있을까? 생각할 것이다.

나이 많은 에녹이 행한 것과 같이 우리들이 하나님과 동행할 때 하나님을 기쁘시게 할 수 있을 것이다.

 

 

The Highest Exercise of Our Powers

 

And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ,

whom thou hast sent. John 17:3.

To comprehend and enjoy God is the highest exercise of the powers of man.

This may be attained only when our affections are sanctified and ennobled

by the grace of Christ....

In Christ was the brightness of His Father’s glory, the express image of His person.

Said our Savior, “He that hath seen me, hath seen the Father.” John 14:9.

In Christ is the life of the soul.

In the outgoings of our hearts to Him, in our earnest,

affectionate yearnings for His excellence, in our eager searching into His glory,

we find life.

In communion with Him we eat the bread of life.

 

When we allow objects of minor importance to absorb our attention, to the forgetfulness of Christ, turning away from Him to accept other companionship,

we set our feet in a path which leads away from God and from heaven.

Christ must be the central object of our affections,

and then we shall live in Him, then we shall have His spirit....

 

God must be ever in our thoughts.

We must hold converse with Him while we walk by the way,

and while our hands are engaged in labor.

In all the purposes and pursuits of life we must inquire, What will the Lord have me to do? How shall I please Him who has given His life a ransom for me?

Thus may we walk with God, as did Enoch of old;

and ours may be the testimony which he received, that he pleased God.
