생각을 지배하라

 

 

그대는 그대의 생각을 지배하여야 한다.

이것은 쉬운 일이 아니다. 주도 면밀하고 더욱 엄격한 노력이 없으면 그렇게 할 수 없다.

그러나 하나님께서는 그대가 이렇게 하기를 요구하신다.

그것은 모든 책임 있는 존재에게 부과되는 의무이다.

 

그대는 그대의 생각에 대해 하나님께 책임을 진다.

그대가 헛된 상상에 빠져서 마음이 부정한 주제에 골똘하도록 허용한다면

그대는 마치 그대의 생각이 실천에 옮겨진 것이나 다름이 없을 정도로

하나님 앞에 범죄하고 있는 것이다.

그것을 행동에 옮기지 못하는 것은 기회가 없기 때문이다.

 

밤낮 몽상하며 공중 누각을 짓는 것은 좋지 않은 것이며 매우 위험한 습관이다.

일단 이런 습관이 성립되면

그것을 깨뜨리고 생각을 순결하고 거룩하게 고상한 제목으로 향하게 하기란 거의 불가능하다.

 

Control the Thoughts

 

You should control your thoughts.

This will not be an easy task; you cannot accomplish it without close and even severe effort. Yet God requires this of you; it is a duty resting upon every accountable being.

You are responsible to God for your thoughts. If you indulge in vain imaginations, permitting your mind to dwell upon impure subjects, you are, in a degree, as guilty before God as if your thoughts were carried into action. All that prevents the action is the lack of opportunity.

Day and night dreaming and castle-building are bad and exceedingly dangerous habits. When once established, it is next to impossible to break up such habits and direct the thoughts to pure, holy, elevated themes.
