거룩한 제지

 

우리는 성급한 기질을 억제하고 우리의 말을 지배해야 한다.

그러면, 우리는 이 점에 있어서 큰 승리를 얻게 될 것이다.

 

우리의 말과 분노를 지배하지 못하면, 우리는 사단의 종이 되어 그에게 굴복하게 된다.

그리하여, 그는 우리를 포로로 끌고 가게된다.

 

귀에 거슬리는 불쾌한 모든 말, 성급하고 불평하는 모든 말은 사단의 지배 아래 바쳐진 제물이다.

그것은 값비싼 제물, 우리가 하나님께 드릴 수 있는 어떤 희생 제물보다 더 값비싼 제물이다.

왜냐하면, 그것은 온 가족의 평화와 행복을 깨뜨리고, 건강을 손상시키고,

마침내 영생의 행복을 박탈해 버리는 원인이 될 것이기 때문이다.

 

하나님의 말씀이 우리에게 부과하는 제지는 우리 자신의 유익을 위한 것이다.

그것은 우리 가족과 우리 주변에 있는 모든 사람들의 행복을 증진시켜 준다.

그것은 우리의 취미를 세련되게 해주고, 우리의 판단을 거룩하게 해주고, 마음의 평안과,

마침내는 영생을 가져다 준다.

 

이 거룩한 제지 아래

우리는 은혜와 겸손 안에서 자라가고 바르게 말하는 일이 쉬워질 것이다.

육신적이며 급한 기질은 정복될 것이다.

마음속에 거하시는 구주께서 매시간 우리를 강하게 해주실 것이다.

 

봉사하는 천사들은 우리가 거하는 곳에서 머물다가,

우리가 거룩한 생애로 발전하고 있다는 소식을 기쁜 마음으로 하늘로 가져 갈 것이다.

그리고, 기록하는 천사는 즐겁고 기쁜 기록을 남길 것이다.

 

 

The Holy Restraint

 

We must subdue a hasty temper and control our words,

and in this we shall gain great victories.

 

Unless we control our words and temper, we are slaves to Satan.

We are in subjection to him. He leads us captive.

 

All jangling and unpleasant, impatient, fretful words

are an offering presented to his Satanic majesty.

And it is a costly offering, more costly than any sacrifice we can make for God,

for it destroys the peace and happiness of whole families, destroys health,

and is eventually the cause of forfeiting an eternal life of happiness.

 

The restraint which God’s word imposes upon us is for our own interest.

It increases the happiness of our families and of all around us.

It refines our taste, sanctifies our judgment, and brings peace of mind,

and, in the end, everlasting life.

 

Under this holy restraint we shall increase in grace and humility,

and it will become easy to speak right.

The natural, passionate temper will be held in subjection.

An indwelling Saviour will strengthen us every hour.

 

Ministering angels will linger in our dwellings

and with joy carry heavenward the tidings of our advance in the divine life,

and the recording angel will make a cheerful, happy record.
