영적인 힘은 개인 기도를 통해 생긴다

 

하나님의 전신 갑주를 입고, 매일 얼마의 시간을 명상과 기도에, 또한 성경 연구에 바치는 자들은

하늘과 연결되고 그들 주변에 있는 사람들에게 구원하고 변화시키는 감화를 주게 될 것이다.

위대한 사상, 고상한 욕망, 진리와 하나님께 대한 의무에 대한 의식 등이 그들의 것이 될 것이다.

그들은 순결과 빛과 사랑과 하늘에서 오는 모든 은혜를 갈망하게 될 것이다.

그들의 열렬한 기도는 휘장 안으로 들어갈 것이다.

이 부류의 사람들은 무한하신 분 앞으로 나올 거룩한 담력을 소유하게 될 것이다.

그들은 하늘의 빛과 영광이 그들을 위한 것임을 느끼고,

그들은 또한 이처럼 친밀하게 하나님을 앎으로써 세련되고, 고상하고, 숭고해질 것이다.

 

이와 같은 일이 진실한 그리스도인들의 특권이다.

 

추상적인 명상은 충분하지 않고 바쁜 활동도 충분하지 않다.

그 두가지는 다 그리스도인의 품성 형성에 요긴하다.

열렬하고 은밀한 기도에서 얻은 힘은 사회의 유혹을 물리치도록 우리를 준비시켜 준다.

그럴지라도 우리는 세상에서 물러나서는 안 된다.

왜냐하면 우리의 그리스도인 경험은 세상의 빛이 되어야 하기 때문이다.

 

만일 우리가 불신자들을 하나님께 연결시켜 줄 목적으로 그들과 섞이고

그들의 영향을 물리칠 만큼 영적으로 충분히 강할 것 같으면

불신자들과의 교제가 우리에게 손해를 주지 않을 것이다.

 

Spiritual Strength Comes Through Private Prayer

 

Those who will put on the whole armor of God and devote some time every day to meditation and prayer and to the study of the Scriptures will be connected with heaven and will have a saving, transforming influence upon those around them. Great thoughts, noble aspirations, clear perceptions of truth and duty to God, will be theirs. They will be yearning for purity, for light, for love, for all the graces of heavenly birth. Their earnest prayers will enter into that within the veil. This class will have a sanctified boldness to come into the presence of the Infinite one. They will feel that heaven’s light and glories are for them, and they will become refined, elevated, ennobled by this intimate acquaintance with God. Such is the privilege of true Christians.

Abstract meditation is not enough; busy action is not enough; both are essential to the formation of Christian character. Strength acquired in earnest, secret prayer prepares us to withstand the allurements of society. And yet we should not exclude ourselves from the world, for our Christian experience is to be the light of the world. The society of unbelievers will do us no harm if we mingle with them for the purpose of connecting them with God and are strong enough spiritually to withstand their influence.—Testimonies for the Church 5:112, 113.
