영원하신 하나님의 음성

하나님의 말씀 가운데서 정신은 가장 깊은 사상과 가장 숭고한 포부의 주제를 발견하게 된다. 여기서 우리들은 부조들과 선지자들과 교제를 나눌 수 있으며 영원하신 분께서 인류와 더불어 대화를 나누시는 음성을 듣게 된다. 여기서 우리는 천국의 황제께서 당신 자신을 스스로 낮추사 우리의 대치물과 보증인이 되시고 홀로 흑암의 권세들과 겨루사 우리 인간을 위하여 승리를 얻으신 것을 볼 수 있다. 이러한 주제들에 대한 경건한 묵상은 틀림없이 심령을 부드럽게 하고 순결하게 하며 고귀하게 하는 동시에 새로운 힘과 기운을 정신에 불어넣어 줄 것이다.

냉담하고 경멸하는 정신으로 하나님의 말씀들을 다루는 것을 마치 용감하고 씩씩한 일처럼 생각하는 자들은 그들 자신의 어리석음과 무지를 폭로하는 격이 된다. 그들은 비록 자신의 자유와 독립을 자랑하지만, 사실은 죄와 사단에게 속박되어 있다. – 청년에게 보내는 기별, 263-4.

The Voice of the Eternal

In the word of God the mind finds subjects for the deepest thought, the loftiest aspirations. Here we may hold communion with patriarchs and prophets, and listen to the voice of the Eternal as He speaks with men. Here we behold the Majesty of heaven as He humbled Himself to become our substitute and surety, to cope single-handed with the powers of darkness, and to gain the victory in our behalf. A reverent contemplation of such themes as these cannot fail to soften, purify, and ennoble the heart, and at the same time to inspire the mind with new strength and vigor.

Those who regard it as brave and manly to treat the claims of God with indifference and contempt, are thereby betraying their own folly and ignorance. While they boast their freedom and independence, they are really in bondage to sin and Satan. - Messages To Young People, 263-264.
