그리스도 안에 있는 생애는 안정(安靜)한 생애이다.

감정의 황홀함은 없을 수도 있지만, 지속적이고 평화로운 신뢰가 있어야 한다.

 

그대의 소망은 그대 자신에게 있지 아니하고 그리스도께 있다.

 

그대의 연약함을 그의 힘과 연합하고

그대의 어리석음을 그의 지혜와 연합하고

그대의 의지의 박약함을 그의 영속적인 능력과 연합할 것이다.

 

그러므로 그대는 자신을 바라보지 말고 마음을 자아에 두지 말고 그리스도를 바라보라.

 

그리스도의 사랑과 그의 품성의 아름다움과 완전하심에 대하여 생각하라.

 

극기의 그리스도,

굴욕을 받으신 그리스도,

순결하고 거룩하신 그리스도,

무한히 사랑하시는 그리스도, 이것이 심령의 명상할 제목이다.

 

그대들이 그의 형상으로 변화하게 되는 것은

그리스도를 사랑함으로 그를 모방함으로,

그를 온전히 의지함으로 되는 것이다.

A life in Christ is a life of restfulness. There may be no ecstasy of feeling, but there should be an abiding, peaceful trust.

 

Your hope is not in yourself; it is in Christ.

 

Your weakness is united to His strength, your ignorance to His wisdom, your frailty to His enduring might.

 

So you are not to look to yourself, not to let the mind dwell upon self, but look to Christ.

 

Let the mind dwell upon His love, upon the beauty, the perfection, of His character.

 

Christ in His self-denial, Christ in His humiliation, Christ in His purity and holiness, Christ in His matchless love—this is the subject for the soul’s contemplation.

 

It is by loving Him, copying Him, depending wholly upon Him, that you are to be transformed into His likeness.
