변화는 우리 품성과 습관과 우리의 직업에 나타나게 될 것이다.

그리하여 과거와 현재 사이의 차이가 분명하고 확실하게 드러나게 될 것이다.

 

품성은 일시적 선행이나 일시적 악행으로 드러날 것이 아니라

습관적인 말과 행실의 경향(傾向)으로 드러나게 될 것이다.

 

그리스도의 새롭게 하시는 능력 없이도

행동이 외부적으로 방정(方正)한 경우가 있는 것도 사실이다.

덕망을 넓히고 사람들에게 존경을 받고자 하는 욕망이

예모 있는 생애를 할 수도 있게도 하는 것이다.

 

또는 자존심이 우리로 하여금 누추한 모양을 피하게 할 수도 있는 것이다.

그리고 이기심을 가진 자도 너그러운 행동을 할 수가 있다.

 

그러면 우리가 어떤 편에 속하였다는 것을 어떠한 방법으로 판단할 수 있을까?

누가 마음을 지배하는가?

우리의 생각이 누구에게 있는가?

우리가 누구에 대하여 말하기를 좋아하는가?

우리의 가장 열정적인 애정과 우리의 최대의 정력을 누가 지배하고 있는가?

 

우리가 그리스도께 속한 사람이라면 우리의 생각은 그에게 있을 것이요

그를 생각함이 우리의 가장 즐거움이 될 것이다.

그리고 우리의 모든 소유와 우리의 몸을 다 그에게 바치게 될 것이다.

 

우리는 그의 형상을 입고 그의 정신을 나타내며

그의 뜻을 행하여 범사에 그를 기쁘시게 하기를 원할 것이다.

🌻Aroma of Life | By what means shall we determine whose side we are on?🌻

 

A change will be seen in the character, the habits, the pursuits. The contrast will be clear and decided between what they have been and what they are.

 

The character is revealed, not by occasional good deeds and occasional misdeeds, but by the tendency of the habitual words and acts.

 

It is true that there may be an outward correctness of deportment without the renewing power of Christ. The love of influence and the desire for the esteem of others may produce a well-ordered life.

 

Self-respect may lead us to avoid the appearance of evil. A selfish heart may perform generous actions. By what means, then, shall we determine whose side we are on?

 

Who has the heart?

With whom are our thoughts?

Of whom do we love to converse?

Who has our warmest affections and our best energies?

 

If we are Christ’s, our thoughts are with Him, and our sweetest thoughts are of Him. All we have and are is consecrated to Him.

 

We long to bear His image, breathe His spirit, do His will, and please Him in all things.
