선과 악 사이에 계속되는 투쟁은

구주의 시대에 있어서보다 그 맹렬함이 결코 감소되지 않았다.

하늘에 이르는 길은 그 당시보다 오늘날이 더 평탄하지는 못하다.

우리의 모든 죄를 버리지 않으면 안 된다.

우리의 영적 진보를 방해하는 모든 애지중지하는 방종은 끊어버려야 한다.

우리의 오른눈과 오른손이 우리를 실족케 하면 그것을 빼어 내버리거나 찍어 내버려야 한다.

우리는 우리의 지혜를 기꺼이 버리고 어린아이와 같이 하늘 나라를 받아들이려는가?
우리는 스스로 의롭다 하는 생각을 버리려 하는가?
우리는 사람들의 칭찬까지도 희생하려 하는가?

영생의 상급은 무한한 가치가 있다.

우리는 성령의 도움을 즐겨 받아들이고 그분과 협력하면서

얻으려 하는 목적물의 가치에 상응하는 노력을 기울이고 희생하려 하는가?

The warfare between good and evil has not grown less fierce than it was in the days of the Saviour. The path to heaven is no smoother now than it was then.

All our sins must be put away. Every darling indulgence that hinders our spiritual progress must be cut off. The right eye or the right hand must be sacrificed, if it causes us to offend.

Are we willing to renounce our own wisdom, and to receive the kingdom of heaven as a little child?
Are we willing to part with our self-righteousness?
Are we willing to sacrifice the approbation of men?

The prize of eternal life is of infinite value. Are we willing to welcome the Holy Spirit’s aid, and co-operate with it, putting forth efforts and making sacrifices proportionate to the value of the object to be obtained?
