우리가 몸소 증거를 얻음

우리가 행로에서 장애물을 만나 그것들을 성실하게 정복하고, 

반대와 치욕을 당하여 그리스도의 이름으로 승리를 얻으며, 

책임을 감당하여 우리 주님께서 가지셨던 정신으로 우리들의 의무를 이행한다면, 

우리는 그리스도의 성실과 능력에 대한 실로 고귀한 지식을 얻게 된다.

우리는 더 이상 남의 경험에 의존하지 않게 될 것인데 그것은 우리가 몸소 증거를 얻었기 때문이다. 

고대의 사마리아인들과 같이

“우리가 친히 듣고 그가 참으로 세상의 구주신 줄 앎이니라”(요 4:42)고 말할 수 있게 된다.

그리스도의 품성을 명상하고 그분의 구원하시는 능력을 체험할수록

우리는 더욱 예민하게 자신의 연약함과 불완전함을 깨닫게 될 것이며, 

그리스도를 더욱 진지하게 우리의 능력과 구속자로 바라보게 될 것이다. 

우리에게는 스스로 마음의 성전을 더러움에서 깨끗하게 할 아무런 능력이 없으나

하나님을 거스려 범한 죄를 회개하고, 그리스도의 공로를 힘입어 용서를 구할 때에

하나님께서는 사랑으로 역사하시고 마음을 순결하게 하는 믿음을 나누어 주실 것이다. 

그리스도를 믿고 하나님의 율법에 순종하면 우리는 성화 될 수 있으며

이리하여 영광의 왕국에 있는 거룩한 천사들과 흰 옷 입은 구속받은 자들과 함께 살 수 있게 된다.

We Have the Witness in Ourselves

If we meet obstacles in our path, and faithfully overcome them; 

if we encounter opposition and reproach, and in Christ’s name gain the victory; 

if we bear responsibilities and discharge our duties in the spirit of our Master—then, 

indeed, we gain a precious knowledge of His faithfulness and power. 

We no longer depend upon the experience of others, for we have the witness in ourselves. Like the Samaritans of old, we can say, “We have heard him ourselves, and know that this is indeed the Christ, the Saviour of the world” (John 4:42).

The more we contemplate the character of Christ, and the more we experience of His saving power, the more keenly shall we realize our own weakness and imperfection, and the more earnestly shall we look to Him as our strength and our Redeemer. 

We have no power in ourselves to cleanse the soul temple from its defilement; but as we repent of our sins against God, and seek pardon through the merits of Christ, He will impart that faith which works by love and purifies the heart. 

By faith in Christ and obedience to the law of God we may be sanctified, and thus obtain a fitness for the society of holy angels and the white-robed redeemed ones in the kingdom of glory.
