믿음의 눈으로 바라봄

만일 우리가 자신의 마음을 그리스도와 하늘 세계에 더 많이 두도록 허용한다면

우리는 주님을 위한 싸움에서 강력한 격려와 지지를 발견하게 될 것이다.

머지 않아 본향이 될 더욱 좋은 저 나라의 영광을 명상할 때에

교만과 세상을 사랑하는 마음은 그 힘을 잃게 될 것이다.

예수님의 사랑 외에는 모든 세상의 매력이 거의 가치 없이 보일 것이다.

아무도 스스로 열렬한 노력을 하지 않고도 하나님의 사랑에 대한 확신을 얻을 수 있다고 생각하지 말라.

오랫동안 마음을 세상 만물만을 생각하도록 허용한다면 그 습관적인 생각을 변경시키는 것은 어려운 일이다. 눈으로 보는 것과 귀로 듣는 것이 너무 자주 관심이 그것에만 끌려 흥미를 그곳에 집중시키기 때문이다.

그러나 우리가 하나님이 계시는 도성에 들어가 예수님과 그분의 영광을 바라보려면

이 세상에서 믿음의 눈으로 예수님을 바라보는 습관을 들여야 한다.

그리스도의 말씀과 품성이 자주 우리의 생각과 이야기의 주제가 되어야 하며

매일 일정한 시간을 특별히 이 거룩한 제목들을 경건하게 명상하는 일에 바쳐야 한다.

Viewing With the Eye of Faith

If we would permit our minds to dwell more upon Christ and the heavenly world, we should find a powerful stimulus and support in fighting the battles of the Lord.

Pride and love of the world will lose their power as we contemplate the glories of that better land so soon to be our home. Beside the loveliness of Christ, all earthly attractions will seem of little worth.

Let none imagine that without earnest effort on their part they can obtain the assurance of God’s love.

When the mind has been long permitted to dwell only on earthly things, it is a difficult matter to change the habits of thought. That which the eye sees and the ear hears, too often attracts the attention and absorbs the interest.

But if we would enter the city of God, and look upon Jesus and His glory, we must become accustomed to beholding Him with the eye of faith here.

The words and the character of Christ should be often the subject of our thoughts and of our conversation, and each day some time should be especially devoted to prayerful meditation upon these sacred themes.
