유혹하는 마귀가 들어오지 못 하도록 모든 통로를 지키라

그리스도의 이름을 부르는 모든 사람들은

경계하고, 기도하고, 심령의 통로들을 지킬 필요가 있으니

이는 사단이 가장 작은 기회라도 주어진다면 타락시키고 멸망시키기 위한 일을 하는

까닭이다.

누가 과연 시험받는 순간에 한가지의 잘못과 경솔한 한 발걸음으로부터 초래될

무서운 결과들을 알 수 있겠는가!

오직 우리의 안전은 매 순간마다 하나님의 은혜로 말미암아 방어함을 받고

우리가 악을 선이라 하고, 선을 악이라 하지 않도록

우리들 자신의 영적 시력을 빼앗기지 않는 데 있다.

주저함이나 이의가 없이 우리는 악에 대하여 심령의 통로를 닫고 지켜야 한다.

 

모든 그리스도인들은 사단이 접근할 길을, 발전할지도 모르는 심령의 모든 통로를,

끊임없이 지키고 계속 경계해야 한다.

그는 하나님의 도움을 간구해야 하며,

동시에 죄로 향하는 모든 경향을 단호히 저항해야 한다.

용기와 믿음과 백절 불굴의 노력으로 그는 이길 수 있다.

그러나 그가 승리를 얻기 위하여서는 그리스도께서 그 안에,

그가 그리스도 안에 거해야 함을 기억하도록 하라.

 

악한 것을 읽거나 보거나 듣기를 피하라

― 사도 베드로는 신자들에게 금지된 주제들로 인하여 정신이 혼돈되거나

경박한 문제들에 정력을 소비하지 않도록 마음을 지키는 것이 얼마나 중요한가를

가르치고자 힘썼다.

 

사단의 계책에 희생이 되지 않으려는 자들은 심령의 통로를 잘 지켜야 할 것이니

그들은 불순한 생각들이 떠오르게 할 것들을 읽거나, 보거나,

혹은 듣는 것을 피해야 한다.

 

마음은 심령의 원수가 제시할지도 모르는 모든 문제들에 닥치는 대로 생각하도록

버려두어서는 안 된다.

심령은 충실히 파수되어야 한다.

그렇지 않으면 밖에 있는 악들이 속에 있는 악들을 일깨울 것이며

그 심령은 암흑 가운데서 방황하게 될 것이다.

 

 

Close Every Avenue to the Tempter

 

 

All who name the name of Christ need to watch and pray and guard the avenues of the soul, for Satan is at work to corrupt and destroy if the least advantage is given him.

It is not safe for us to linger to contemplate the advantages to be reaped through yielding to Satan’s suggestions. Sin means dishonor and disaster to every soul that indulges in it; but it is blinding and deceiving in its nature, and it will entice us with flattering presentations.

If we venture on Satan’s ground, we have no assurance of protection from his power. So far as in us lies, we should close every avenue by which the tempter may find access to us.

Who can know, in the moment of temptation, the terrible consequences which will result from one wrong, hasty step! Our only safety is to be shielded by the grace of God every moment, and not put out our own spiritual eyesight so that we will call evil, good, and good, evil. Without hesitation or argument we must close and guard the avenues of the soul against evil.

Every Christian must stand on guard continually, watching every avenue of the soul where Satan might find access. He must pray for divine help and at the same time resolutely resist every inclination to sin. By courage, by faith, by persevering toil, he can conquer. But let him remember that to gain the victory Christ must abide in him and he in Christ.

 

Avoid Reading, Seeing, or Hearing Evil—The apostle [Peter] sought to teach the believers how important it is to keep the mind from wandering to forbidden themes or from spending its energies on trifling subjects. Those who would not fall a prey to Satan’s devices must guard well the avenues of the soul; they must avoid reading, seeing, or hearing that which will suggest impure thoughts. The mind must not be left to dwell at random upon every subject that the enemy of souls may suggest. The heart must be faithfully sentineled, or evils without will awaken evils within, and the soul will wander in darkness. – Adventists Home, 402-3.
