보이지 않는 위험

야고보서 1:13~25

 

UNSEEN DANGER

Each one is tempted when he is drawn away by his own desires and enticed. -James 1:14

When I was a young child, our family escaped near tragedy. Most of the main appliances in the house, as well as the furnace, were fueled by natural gas, but a small leak in one of the gas lines put our lives at risk. As the gas poured into our little house, our family was overcome by the lethal fumes and we lost consciousness. Had we not been discovered by a neighbor who happened to stop by for a visit, we all could have been killed by this dangerous, unseen enemy. As followers of Christ, we can also fi-nd ourselves surrounded by unseen dangers. The toxic realities of temptation and the weaknesses of our own human frailty can endanger our lives and relationships. Unlike the natural gas in my childhood home, however, these unseen dangers do not come from outside of us-they reside within us. James wrote, “Each one is tempted when he is drawn away by his own desires and enticed” (James 1:14). Our natural tendency to sin, compounded by blind spots that prevent us from seeing our own weaknesses, can lead to toxic choices that ruin us. It is only by submitting to God as He shows us our hearts in His Word (vv.23-25) that we can live a life that pleases the Master. -Bill Crowder

The unseen Spirit of God is the greatest protection against sin’s unseen dangers.       보이지 않는 위험 각 사람이 시험을 받는 것은 자기 욕심에 끌려 미혹됨이니-야고보서 1:14 내가 어렸을 때 우리 가족이 참사를 당할 뻔한 적이 있었습니다. 난로를 포함하여 우리 집에 있는 대부분의 살림 기구들이 천연가스를 사용하는 것들이었는데, 가스배관 중 하나에서 가스가 조금씩 새어나오면서 우리 가족의 생명이 위태롭게 되었던 것입니다. 작은 우리 집 안에 가스가 퍼지면서 모두 치명적인 가스에 중독되어 의식을 잃었습니다. 우연히 우리 집에 들렀던 이웃에 의해 발견되지 않았더라면, 우리 가족은 모두 이 보이지 않는 위험한 적에 의해 목숨을 잃었을 것입니다. 그리스도를 따르는 우리도 우리 자신의 주변에 보이지 않는 위험들이 도사리고 있음을 발견할 수 있습니다. 유혹으로 가득 찬 위험한 현실과 우리자신의 인간적인 연약함이 우리의 삶과 관계들을 위험에 처하게 할 수 있습니다. 그러나 어린 시절에 살던 우리 집의 천연가스와는 달리, 이 보이지 않는 위험들은 우리 외부로부터 오는 것이 아니라 우리 속에 존재하고 있습니다. 야고보는 “각 사람이 시험을 받는 것은 자기 욕심에 끌려 미혹됨이니”(약 1:14)라고 말합니다. 죄를 저지르기 쉬운 우리의 천성은 우리 자신의 연약함을 보지 못하게 방해하는 우리의 약점과 더불어 우리로 하여금 자신을 망치게 하는 해로운 선택을 하게 만듭니다. 우리가 하나님을 기쁘시게 하는 삶을 살 수 있게 되는 것은, 하나님이 말씀으로 우리에게 우리 마음이 어떠한지를 보여주실 때에(23-25절) 하나님께 복종함으로써만 가능합니다. 성령님, 제 마음에 임하시어 세상의 온갖 유혹으로부터 떠나게 하소서 전능하신 하나님, 제 연약함을 굽어보시고 마땅히 드려야 할 사랑을 당신에게 돌리게 하소서 보이지 않는 성령님은 보이지 않는 죄의 위험에 대비케 하는 가장 든든한 보호이다.
